Great photo of Scandinavia and Finland, courtesy NASA.

Check out the Russo-Finnish border in Karelia. The border is clearly delineated in topographical terms.

The border is really an arbitrary line which does not conform to any natural, topographical features. Yet the Russian side is darker, greener, than the Finnish side, due to the more economically developed land on the Finnish side.
